Here's a little Q+A session we did to learn more about Dani and her Pilates Journey

1. Why did you choose Neu Pilates?

I chose Neu Pilates because of its strong physiotherapy-informed approach. As a registered nurse with years of experience in pole, aerial silks, hoop and personal training, I’ve seen firsthand how much proper cueing and alignment matter. I’ve also learned — sometimes the hard way — how easy it is to get injured when instruction isn’t biomechanically sound.

Neu Pilates stood out to me because it integrates physiotherapy principles with intelligent Pilates sequencing. It felt like the perfect match for where I want my teaching to grow: safer, clearer and more supportive of long-term mobility (for both myself and my clients — and my poor hip flexors thank you).

2. What is your favorite Pilates exercise?

Any lunge variation with a Pilates ball — hands down. I swear it finds muscles I didn’t even know I owned. I also became mildly obsessed with the hip plug concept after learning it in your course. Applying it in core work was mind-blowing… the kind of mind-blowing where you think, “Wow, this is brilliant,” followed immediately by, “Oh no, this is going to hurt — in a good way.”

3. What is the hardest Pilates exercise for you?

Single leg stretch. Without question.

It looks innocent… and then five seconds in I’m questioning every life choice that brought me to that moment. It’s humbling, it’s fiery and it keeps me very honest in my own practice.

4. How has Neu Pilates training changed your treatment approach?

Neu Pilates has completely changed the way I teach. I’m much more precise with spatial cueing, alignment, and safety now, and I can already see massive improvements in my clients’ movement quality. Up here on the North Island, I’m slowly building a little Pilates community and incorporating your cueing has made my classes feel safer, more effective, and more accessible.

My teaching feels more technical, more intentional, and more physiotherapy-informed — which is exactly what my community needs.

5. What did you enjoy most about the Pilates teacher training?

I loved how much there was to learn — especially the space cues. They’re so unique to Neu Pilates and genuinely changed the way I understand movement. Every module made something “click” in my brain (sometimes after three tries… but still, it clicked!).

I also appreciated how applicable everything felt. I’d finish a training session and immediately start using the concepts in my own classes, which my clients definitely noticed and appreciated- those “AHA!” moments are priceless!

6. What are your Pilates goals for the next 3–5 years?

My goal is to continue building my growing Pilates community on the North Island, where access to studios is limited and the need for informed, accessible movement is high. I’d love to open a small boutique movement space that blends physiotherapy-informed Pilates, somatic practices and mindful strength training…maybe get us north island girlies some reformers someday!

I’m also working toward offering wellness retreats both internationally and across Vancouver Island — some led independently and others in collaboration with movement guides, energy-based practitioners and creative professionals. I’ve been imagining interprofessional experiences that blend Pilates with complementary practices such as voice work, art-based expression and other therapeutic modalities, creating retreats that are restorative, meaningful and immersive.

Alongside this, I’m continuing to expand my YouTube channel, where I offer classes in both English and Italian. I’m currently developing a virtual Pilates travel mini-series filmed in Italy, which has been a wonderful way to merge movement, nature, culture and accessibility for people who can’t take in-person classes.

7. What positive impact has Pilates had on your personal exercise routine?

Pilates has shaped my entire movement philosophy. I actually discovered my own form of it in my early twenties while travelling in Costa Rica — my running shoes were stolen, so I ended up building little mat routines on a yoga mat and a pair of flip-flops.

Over the years, Pilates helped me rehabilitate injuries from aerial dance, pole and my general tendency to push myself too hard. It’s become a huge part of how I regulate my nervous system, manage stress, build mobility and stay grounded. It’s also given me the confidence to start my YouTube channel and share movement with people who might not otherwise have access to it.
